1876. A small group of organizers push to get politician Solomon Reed elected as the first Black mayor of Lochton, Louisiana. As they fight to gain the upperhand in the election, Rep. James Franklin contends with a congressional body that has grown tired of federal hands in the South. With the looming Presidential election threatening to end Reconstruction and Lochton on the brink of violence, these unsung heroes come together and risk it all to demand that the nation lives up to its creed. Men of Mettle reflects on a time of hope and grapples with a future that almost was.
